Rambus licenses both its broad portfolio of patented innovations, and its leadership and industry-standard solutions. Rambus also provides engineering services to its licensees to ensure its technologies are successfully integrated into its customers' products.

Licensing Options

First, Rambus licenses its broad portfolio of patented inventions to semiconductor and system companies who use these inventions in the development and manufacture of their own products. Such licensing agreements may cover the license of part, or all, of Rambus’ patent portfolio. Patent license agreements are royalty bearing.

Second, Rambus develops leadership and industry-standard solutions provided to its customers under license for incorporation into their semiconductor and system products. Solutions license agreements may have both a fixed price (non-recurring) component and ongoing royalties. Under solutions licenses, Rambus customers may receive licenses to patents necessary to implement the solutions in their products with specific rights and restrictions to the applicable patents elaborated in their individual contracts with Rambus.

Because of the often complex nature of implementing state-of-the art technology, Rambus offers licensees a range of engineering services to help them successfully integrate its solutions into their products. Engineering services are performed on a fixed price basis and are often bundled with a solutions license agreement.
