Fraud Should Be First Priority for Smart Meter Security

Electricity theft in the U.S. is estimated at $6 billion, according to a report by IEEE. As millions of electricity meters go digital, security becomes a top concern. The largest security threat at the moment is not infrastructure damage or privacy breaches, but fraud. When it comes to fraud protection and privacy, meter makers and their suppliers must think of smart meters as a similar piece of consumer electronics says Ben Jun, VP Technology Development for Cryptography Research, a division of Rambus.
