Bell ID, a leading provider of smart card management systems, has been chosen to provide its I-PIN solution to Home Trust Company, one of Canada’s leading trust companies.
Home Trust will use Bell ID’s EMV PIN change application to allow its EMV cardholders to securely choose and change their PIN online via Home Trust’s website, simply using a PC/SC smart card reader issued by Home Trust and any computer with an internet connection.
“Bell ID’s approach to providing PIN change functionality via the internet gives us an excellent opportunity to provide increased convenience for our customers in the absence of our own ATM infrastructure,” comments Norm Thacker, Vice President of Information Technology at Home Trust Company.
The new solution will also allow cardholders to unblock their PIN online if card access has been suspended temporarily, following entry of a wrong PIN on multiple occasions. This feature will result in significant savings for Home Trust against re-issuance costs.
Hugo Crawford, Sales Manager Americas at Bell ID, comments: “We are very pleased to be working with Home Trust on this initiative to provide greater convenience to its customers. I-PIN’s suitability for this project is based on the ability to seamlessly integrate the application with Home Trust’s existing website, its potential to offer significant reductions in re-issuance costs and the solution’s capacity to enhance customer loyalty.”
I-PIN: Overview
Bell ID’s (patent pending) I-PIN solution uses the company’s existing Script Delivery System and provides a flexible and future proof card management channel that may also be expanded to facilitate the updating of application risk parameters, the loading and deleting of card applications, as well as blocking of cards and applications. This strategy enables issuers to minimize card risk and decrease time to market for new card features.
I-PIN is implemented using Java and Web2 technology and is internet browser independent. The front-end presents a secure Virtual PIN Entry Device for the user to enter their old and new PIN, while the back-end takes care of generating PIN Change Scripts and ensures PIN synchronization between card applications and the online PIN host. I-PIN is designed for easy integration with internet banking websites and host systems but can also be implemented as a standalone service. More information: Bell ID PIN Manager.
