Abstract: As AI workloads grow, data-center interconnects must support greater bandwidth, reach, and scalability. This talk explores how PCIe retimers restore signal integrity for reliable high-speed links, while PCIe switches connect and share CPUs, GPUs, storage, and other resources. It discusses their complementary roles in disaggregated architectures and resource pooling, including peer-to-peer communication and rack-level connectivity. Copper and optical interconnect examples illustrate how controllers, switches, and retimers work together to build robust, scalable AI infrastructure.
