Rambus Named Finalist in Three Categories for 2014 ACE Awards

Recognized among top companies for Executive of the Year, Ultimate Products, and Energy Technology categories

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 26, 2014 — Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS), today announced it has been recognized as a finalist in three categories in UBM Tech’s EE Times and EDN Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. Highlighting the finalist honors, Rambus CEO, Dr. Ronald Black has been named as a finalist for Executive of the Year for his significant achievements in executive leadership.

Rambus has also been named a finalist for its R+™ LPDDR3 offering in the Ultimate Products-Logic/Interface/Memory awards category. The R+ LPDDR3 memory architecture solution improves power consumption and performance in mobile devices. The architecture is fully compatible with industry standards allowing customers to improve and differentiate their products in a cost-effective manner with improved time-to-market. The R+ LPDDR3 architecture includes both a controller and a DRAM interface and can reduce active memory system power by up to 25% supporting data rates of up to 2400 megabits per second (Mbps) with a roadmap to 3200 Mbps.

The Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards celebrate the creators of technology who demonstrate leadership and innovation in the global industry and shape the world we live in. EE Times and EDN ACE Awards are judged by a blue-ribbon panel of industry experts, comprised of the leading voices of academia, industry executives and content experts. The ACE Awards winners will be unveiled during a ceremony on April 1, 2014, as part of UBM Tech’s EE Live! Conference.

Rambus and Nanya Sign Patent License Agreement

Settles all outstanding disputes and creates opportunities for collaborative engagements

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. and TAOYUAN, TAIWAN — March 23, 2014 — Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS), the innovative technology solutions company, and Nanya Technology Corporation, the industry leading pure-play consumer memory company, today announced they have signed a broad five-year patent license agreement. This agreement allows for the use of certain high-performance, low-power patented innovations developed by Rambus in Nanya DRAM products and enables future technology collaboration. Under this agreement, Rambus and Nanya have settled all outstanding claims, providing Nanya with access to certain memory-related Rambus innovations through the second quarter of 2018. Other terms of the agreement are confidential.

First Demonstration of Rambus’ R+ Enhanced Industry Standards Platform and 3D IC Interposers Technology

At DesignCon 2013, Rambus will unveil the innovative R+ enhanced industry standards platform. R+ offers the commercial benefits of industry-standard memory and chip-to-chip interfaces while enabling customers to differentiate products through specialized solutions. Additionally, Rambus will showcase innovations in 3D IC interposer technology. Rambus will be at booth #301, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

Demonstrations:

Extending Main Memory Beyond DDR4 – An R+ Technology
The demonstration showcases technologies that can extend main memory beyond DDR4. With data rates of up to 6.4Gbps in a multi-rank, multi-DIMM system, this high-performance, high-capacity technology simplifies the system design and significantly reduces the overall system power requirements.

R+ DDR3 Memory Interface Solution
This demonstration of a high-performance, low-cost DDR3 memory controller interface solution is tailored for consumer electronics. The solution demonstrates operation in working silicon at a data rate of 2133 megatransfers per second (MT/s) in a low-cost wire bond package. The solution is design to improve power efficiency and reduce risk in a cost-effective implementation.

R+ DDR3/GDDR5 Multi-Modal Interface Technology
This R+ demonstration showcases FlexMode™ technology, a low-risk, multi-modal memory interface that can be implemented in a single SoC package design with no additional pins. This system demonstration highlights compatibility to single-ended memory architectures, including GDDR5 at 6 gigabits per second (Gbps) and DDR3 at 1600MT/s.

3D IC Memory Technology
This technology is one of the latest innovations from Rambus Labs. The demo will highlight future and potential capabilities and showcase a high-performance, low-power 3D memory system using a double-sided IC package.

Rambus Introduces R+™ LPDDR3 Memory Architecture Solution

Fully compatible with industry standards, the R+™ LPDDR3 solution offers significantly improved power and performance

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – 01/28/2013 – Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS), the innovative technology solutions company that brings invention to market, today announced its first LPDDR3 offering targeted at the mobile industry. In the Rambus R+ solution set, the R+ LPDDR3 memory architecture is fully compatible with industry standards while providing improved power and performance. This allows customers to differentiate their products in a cost-effective manner with improved time-to-market. Further helping improve design and development cycles, the R+ LPDDR3 is also available with Rambus’ collaborative design and integration services.

The R+ LPDDR3 architecture includes both a controller and a DRAM interface and can reduce active memory system power by up to 25% and supports data rates of up to 3200 megabits per second (Mbps), which is double the performance of existing LPDDR3 technologies. These improvements to power efficiency and performance enable longer battery life and enhanced mobile device functionality for streaming HD video, gaming and data-intensive apps.

The seed to the improved power and performance offered by the R+ LPDDR3 architecture is a low-swing implementation of the Rambus Near Ground Signaling technology. Essentially, this single-ended, ground-terminated signaling technology allows devices to achieve higher data rates with significantly reduced IO power. The R+ LPDDR3 architecture is built from ground up to be backward compatible with LPDDR3 supporting same protocol, power states and existing package definitions and system environments.

Additional key features of the R+ LPDDR3 include:

Rambus Signs Patent License Agreement with Toshiba

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – 03/15/2011 – Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), one of the world’s premier technology licensing companies, announced today it has renewed its patent license agreement with Toshiba Corporation. This five year agreement covers Toshiba’s products with DRAM memory controllers for SDR, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, and other DRAM devices. Rambus will receive royalty payments based on the shipment of these memory controllers.
