Lensless, Pinpoint-Sized Camera Could Add Sight to Any Device

With no lens and capturing only a blur of light, a new type of camera developed by Rambus barely meets the definition of the word. But it’s so small and cheap to make that it could be included in just about any device.

A Microscopic Lens-Free Image Sensor Could Turn Anything Into a Camera

This tiny piece of glass may not look like much, but in fact its surface is cleverly etched to capture light, and it contains a small chip to process the incident light. Yep, it’s a tiny camera that could provide any object—however small—with the means of capturing images.

Lens-Free Camera Sees Things Differently

Patrick Gill is excited to show me a small, fuzzy-looking picture of the Mona Lisa, printed in black and white on a piece of paper. It’s not much to look at, literally, but it’s unmistakably her, with long dark hair and that mysterious smile.

Verimatrix Calls Time On Hardware Security

Pay TV operators are abandoning traditional smartcard based CA (Conditional Access) systems to adopt software solutions, according to revenue security vendor Verimatrix. But ironically this trend has been accelerated by incorporation of ASIC security cores inside set-top box and gateway SoCs (System on Chips), blurring the distinction between hardware and software security.
