BearingPoint and Gemalto implement Bell ID’s ANDiS Card, Application and Key Management System, providing a “FIPS compliant shared service” issuing system under the direction of General Services Administration (GSA) The GSA contract, which was awarded to Bearing Point, includes Gemalto’s SafesITe Government solution, which uses ANDiS as the Card Management System.
Bell ID, worldwide technology leader in the field of smart card management solutions, today announced ANDiS was selected as the Card, Application and Key Management system for the FIPS 201 compliant shared service under the direction of GSA.
The new GSA service will be using ANDiS as part of the SafesITe Government solution enabling agencies to provide federal employees and contractors with new identity cards that comply with standards set by Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12).
This opportunity to share services provided through GSA’s HSPD-12 shared-services office is expected to enable participating agencies to issue the new cards by Oct 27, 2006.
Under the competitive contract, awarded and effective on Aug. 17, agencies in the same geographic locations will be able to share required HSPD-12 implementation services and take advantage of GSA’s oversight and related management services to significantly reduce costs to the federal government and taxpayers. So far 26 agencies, representing more than 400,000 employees, have signed up with BearingPoint.
The GSA award proves that thanks to the multi-issuer capability of ANDiS, SafesITe Government can be implemented either at the end customer/issuer or within a serviced environment as in the case for GSA. The multi issuer capability will allow issuing PIV cards for several small medium and large agencies, using one central ANDiS Card Management System.
Oliver Burke, General Manager Partners and Marketing at Bell ID commented: “Providing ANDiS to the General Services Administration is a great honor for Bell ID. Winning the trust of a second US federal agency, after TSA, who selected ANDiS for phase III of their TWIC project in 2005, makes Bell ID very proud and encourages us to continue our engagement in the US FIPS 201 market.”
The selection of Gemalto’s SafesITe Government solution for the GSA shared services provision and our partnership with Bell-ID and their ANDiS product provides a best in class Card Management System capability. This will be central to the success of Government Agencies as they comply with HSPD-12 says Neville Pattinson, Director of Marketing and Government Affairs at Gemalto.
