Rambus Introduces Off-the-Shelf LED Light Guides

New product line integrates proven MicroLens® optics for superior efficiency and control of light

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – May 3, 2017 – Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS) today announced a new family of off-the-shelf optical light guides that are used to create ultra-thin LED edge-lit luminaires for a broad range of lighting applications. The new products deliver the performance and efficiency benefits of Rambus’ proven MicroLens technology, which have shipped in over 6 million light guides and used in fixtures around the world. The new LED light guides provide the time-to-market advantage of standard products.

“Rambus has a strong history partnering with our customers to produce light guides that have been designed and built to custom specifications for optimal quality and control of light,” said John Langevin, general manager of Lighting for Rambus. “With the addition of standard products, we are able to leverage our expertise and technology to provide fixture designers access to our MicroLens technology without any custom tooling or non-recurring engineering. This reduces development time and cost, and accelerates time to market.”

Standard LED Light Guides with MicroLens Optics

The LED light guides use MicroLens Optics with a constant density pattern that can be used in a variety of form factors and applications. They are particularly well suited for recessed and suspended luminaires in offices, schools, hospitals and high-bay buildings. The products are cost effective, energy efficient and provide greater control and directionality of light, allowing designers more time to spend on developing creative luminaires. The light guides are manufactured in our state-of-the-art, high-volume manufacturing facility in the United States.

The initial launch includes three product families with distinct optical patterns for varying aesthetic and functional requirements including:

  • The S-Series uses specular optics and offers maximum ray angle control and lowest glare.
  • The SD-Series provides good glare control and a wider downlight and uplight distribution.
  • The D-Series provides a uniform light distribution with a more diffuse appearance.

Availability
The light guides are available for immediate shipment in six standard sizes, with additional sizes available upon request.

Rambus Receives Provisional ENERGY STAR Certification for Revolutionary LED Bulb

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – 08/12/2013 – Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS), the innovative technology solutions company that brings invention to market, today announced that the company’s revolutionary 60 watt equivalent A19 LED bulb has gained provisional ENERGY STAR™ certification, validating the efficiency, lumen output, color temperature and light output distribution capabilities of the bulb. In order to meet the provisional ENERGY STAR certification, the bulb exceeded the 800 lumens requirement by delivering 850 lumens, maintained appropriate lumen output and color temperature, and provided an incandescent-like luminous intensity distribution during testing.

“Our bulb delivers efficiency and performance through an innovative design using thermals and our MicroLens® optics to create the most efficient Energy Star compliant light distribution on the market today,” said Jeffery Parker, president of the Rambus Lighting and Display Technology division. “Achieving this provisional rating is a key step towards our larger effort of providing effective and affordable LED lighting solutions to consumers and businesses alike.”

The Rambus A19 bulb uses MicroLens optical technology, which enables the use of a efficient waveguide technology that produces a omni-directional, consistent distribution of light required by ENERGY STAR. This open structure allows for the innovative use of convection to keep the bulb cool, increasing energy efficiency and significantly improving the lifetime of the bulb, lasting up to 25 times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb. The cost-effective Rambus solution requires fewer LEDs to deliver light output and offers broad compatibility with dimmers, resulting in no humming or buzzing, unlike alternative offerings in the marketplace.

Rambus recently added to its comprehensive LED lighting portfolio with the recent announcement of the new PAR30 and BR30 LED bulbs, both of which exceed the lumen output specified by ENERGY STAR. Additionally, the two newest products join the A19 bulb in being compliant with Underwriter’s Laboratories’ safety standards requirements.

The full portfolio of Rambus LED bulbs are currently available for orders with shipments expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Rambus Adds Color Temperature Change Capability to Family of Revolutionary LED Bulbs

In-lamp adjustment allows end users to choose color temperature with a turn of the dial

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – 06/10/2013 – Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS), the innovative technology solutions company that brings invention to market, today introduced a revolutionary capability for in-lamp adjustment of color temperature in its LED-based PAR30 and BR30 bulbs. This technology development comes following the general release of the Rambus PAR30 and BR30 bulbs, and continues the company’s momentum in bringing its portfolio of LED bulbs to market.

Since LEDs are available in a series of color that cross the spectrum of white, there is a high degree of variation of color temperatures in lamps that are available to the consumer, making it difficult to blend new LED bulbs with existing lighting. With a simple turn of a dial on the bulb, this innovative technology cost effectively enables in-lamp color temperature change through the use of a remote phosphor and a color mixing light guide, without requiring additional LEDs or expensive multi-channel drivers.

The Rambus in-lamp color adjustment technology allows the end user to continuously adjust color temperature to create the desired environment, from cool white of 5,000 kelvin to warm white of 3,000 kelvin, and all points in between. In the commercial sector, this technology enables simplified SKU management and is scalable to meet changing needs. Retailers need only one bulb on the store shelf to cover all the different color options that consumers require.

“We are excited to add more revolutionary capabilities to our LED bulb product portfolio. The ability for the end user to control and update the color temperature of their bulbs is unique within the lighting industry,” said Jeffery Parker, president of the Lighting and Display Technology group at Rambus. “Whether it’s a consumer, distributor, store owner or facility manager, this new capability means users can purchase the bulb today without worrying about replacing it later if their color temperature needs change.”

Rambus is currently accepting commercial requests for its PAR30 and BR30 bulbs, which are expected to be generally available in Q3 of this year. For additional information on Rambus’ wide-range of lighting innovations, please visit: www.rambus.com/bulb.
