Rambus has launched its CryptoMedia platform for VIDITY-compliant player devices. Designed to protect 4K UHD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) programming, CryptoMedia allows consumers to easily store, copy and share premium content across multiple devices.
According to Kendra De Berti, a director at Rambus, CryptoMedia is a comprehensive platform that includes a secure core, a software player and trusted key provisioning services.
“The Key Derivation Core (Encrypted Verilog RTL) provides a complete and secure hardware IP solution for handling symmetric keys in VIDITY-compliant player devices,” De Berti explained.
“The Player Agent – a complete SCSA-compliant solution for Android and Embedded Linux – ensures secure acquisition and playback of VIDITY content. Meanwhile, the Key Issuance Center (KIC) provides keys to player and storage device manufacturers, as well as content providers in the VIDITY ecosystem.”
De Berti also confirmed that Rambus Cryptography Research has been involved throughout the development of the VIDITY format as a trusted partner and security advisor to the Secure Content Storage Association (SCSA). Indeed, Cryptography Research offered provisional key management services to members of the consortium during the run-up to VIDITY’s official launch.
As we’ve previously discussed on Rambus Press, the SCSA was founded by a number of industry heavyweights, including 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, SanDisk Corporation and Western Digital. In addition, over 50 contributor companies have joined the SCSA since 2012, including ARM, Cisco, Comcast, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics and Seagate Technology. It should also be noted that a number of SCSA members, including Samsung, Fox, Seagate, Western Digital and MGO, already have VIDITY compatible products on the market that support 4K UHD and HDR.
