Rambus is showcasing its new server memory interface chipset at IDF 2015 in San Francisco. RB26 – for RDIMMs and LRDIMMs – is designed to deliver industry-leading performance and capacity for both the enterprise and data center server markets.
“RB26 is actually the first in a family of R+ chips,” said Samira Naraghi, a marketing director at Rambus.
“It is an enhanced, JECEC-compliant memory module chipset designed to accelerate data-intensive applications, including real-time analytics, virtualization and in-memory computing, with increased speed, reliability and power-efficiency. The introduction of the RB26 is a natural progression that allows us to deliver maximum value to the industry.”
According to Naraghi, the RB26 DDR4 RDIMM and LRDIMM chipset, which features a DDR4 Register Clock Driver (RCD) and Data Buffer (DB), also offers:
- Full compliance with the latest JEDEC DDR4 RCD and DB specifications at 2666 Mbps with built-in support for future data rates.
- Advanced I/O programmability and power management techniques to facilitate broad interoperability and increased efficiency in critical server infrastructures.
- Integrated tools and added device flexibility that provide a robust system while delivering ease-of-integration and enhanced testability for server OEMs.
As Patrick Moorhead, president of Moor Insights & Strategy, points out, data centers and enterprise markets are under increased pressure to implement enhanced memory architectures that meet the capacity and bandwidth requirements to handle large amounts of complex data.
“This chipset is a small, but important piece of enabling technology and Rambus’ deep expertise in advanced memory designs makes them a new comer to watch in the server memory chipset market,” he concluded.
RB26 is currently sampling to key customers and critical ecosystem partners. The chipset includes a strong roadmap with value-added features to support further improvements to system performance and reliability.
