Snowpiercer success highlights growing VOD market
Snowpiercer – directed by Bong Joon-ho – is a 2013 South Korean science fiction art-house action film based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. According to The Boston Globe, the film has made nearly $11 million on VOD, more than double its theatrical revenue. Garnering rave reviews, Snowpiercer ultimately became Radius TWC’s second-highest grossing picture.
Paul Kocher talks smart credit cards with the New York Times
Paul Kocher, the president and chief scientist of Rambus Cryptography Research division, recently penned an article for the New York Times about the long-overdue U.S. upgrade to “smart” credit cards equipped with security chips.
The cards – which employ a protocol known as E.M.V. – are currently widely used throughout Europe and the rest of the world. However, most American cards today are only equipped with a magnetic strip to verify authorized customer activity.

A field-programmable gate array – or FPGA – is an integrated circuit that can be configured by a customer or designer after manufacturing. As HPC Wire’s Nicole Hemsoth recently reported, FPGAs have found a comfortable home in a broad range of applications that can be very broadly defined as search-based with the arrival of Big Data in HPC, hyperscale and general commercial environments. In addition, FPGAs are seeing significant adoption in research—particularly in the life sciences.
