Bell ID Joins Mobey Forum

Offers HCE Expertise To Global Industry Association

Token management specialist, Bell ID, has become a member of Mobey Forum, joining  other industry players in empowering banks to take the lead in mobile money. As a new Associate Member, Bell ID will lend its expertise in host card emulation (HCE) to the work of the association’s Business Workgroup as discussions on HCE as a route to market for bank-led mobile payment solutions continue to gain traction across the industry.

Bell ID’s chip lifecycle management software enables banks, mobile network operators and other entities to manage mobile near field communication services and devices, in addition to EMV chip payment cards and other tokens.

“HCE is receiving a lot of press at the moment and is a big talking point for our members,” adds Sirpa Nordlund, Executive Director of Mobey Forum. “Bell ID is a recognized specialist in this area so we welcome its expertise and contribution to further the understanding of the Mobey Forum membership.”

Pat Curran, Executive Chairman of Bell ID, comments: “With HCE coming to the fore, the time was right to join Mobey Forum. With the payment systems working to bring standards forward and Google withdrawing support for physical secure elements, HCE is no longer hype but a credible alternative route to market. As one of the first to market with a cloud-based payments platform, and a background in EMV card management and trusted service management, we look forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise with Mobey Forum.”

Bell ID will contribute to the discussion around HCE at Mobey Day 2014, 7-8 October in Barcelona. Interested to learn more about HCE in general? Watch our short explanatory video.

Bell ID Launches Bell ID® Certificate Manager

Global provider of smart token management solutions, Bell ID, today announces the launch of Bell ID® Certificate Manager: a web-based platform to manage digital certificates in computer networks, on smart phones, smart cards or USB tokens. Aimed at enterprises, governments and third party service providers, it reduces operational costs by delegating control to end-users via a self-service portal and by automating many bulk certificate management tasks.

By empowering end-users with certificate management capabilities, organizations are able to improve central IT service desk activities while reducing costs and freeing up resources. The system automatically checks the expiry dates and certified data of employee certificates and issues email notifications when action is required, thereby ensuring the certificate validity and overall IT security.

“Managing identity credentials has always been at the core of our business activities. We are pleased to now expand our solution to the management of certificates as well,” comments David Orme, CEO at Bell ID. “There has already been significant interest from both current and new customers; proving there is a real need for a cost-effective, secure and efficient certificate management solution.”

The product supports the management of any type of certificate from different Certificate Authorities and easily integrates with existing IT systems. As part of Bell ID’s identity suite, the solution can easily be extended with other applications such as physical access control, biometric identification or loyalty, providing organizations with a scalable solution which is adaptable to future technical and commercial requirements. Bell ID Certificate Manager has successfully passed all Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP)-vulnerability tests and is currently being deployed at several customer sites.

CPI Card Group to Become Trusted Service Manager Using Bell ID Software

CPI Card Group (CPI), a global supplier of financial card production and personalization services, has selected Bell ID’s Trusted Service Manager (TSM) software solutions to enable the provisioning and management of mobile near field communication (NFC)-based applications for its customer base across North America.

Using Bell ID’s solutions, CPI will be able to assume the role of TSM and support mobile network operators (MNOs) and service providers such as banks and transit organizations to deploy mobile NFC services. Through its TSM services, CPI provides the personalization of NFC secure elements and the secure provisioning of applications – such as payment, loyalty and transit – ‘over the air’ to an NFC enabled mobile handset pre- and post-issuance. The ability to update and manage applications post-deployment allows businesses to react quickly to changing market requirements and compliance regulations. Post-issuance capabilities also enable the convenient delivery of new, pioneering services directly to customers during the lifecycle of the secure element. CPI is offering the TSM services to financial institutions, merchants, MNOs, transit agencies and administrations, enabling them to use the NFC functionalities for payment, couponing and secured access control.

“Utilizing Bell ID’s software solutions will enable us to offer services and support to the emerging payments industry by providing the framework for a powerful and flexible offering to our North American customers” said Steve Montross, President and CEO of CPI, “as a trusted service provider, CPI is creating the expert partnerships necessary to conduct business securely and efficiently.”

David Orme, CEO at Bell ID, added: “As we see a growing and promising demand for NFC and mobile technology, we are keen to see that CPI is taking a leading role in delivering an efficient and secure environment for NFC personalization services using Bell ID software and we are pleased to support its TSM offering.”

About CPI Card Group

CPI, a global leader in financial, commercial and identification card production and related services, offers a single source for cards and other form factors, from financial and gift to EMV chip and mobile, and personalization and fulfillment services. Bell ID Launches TSM Software Solutions to Manage NFC Ecosystem Complexity

Bell ID has announced the launch of Bell ID® Trusted Service Manager, a versatile software platform that provides over-the-air (OTA) lifecycle management of applications, cryptographic keys and secure elements (SE) on near field communication (NFC) mobile devices. The solution assists mobile network operators, service providers (application issuers) and trusted third parties in executing complex Trusted Service Manager (TSM) services or the provisioning of applications onto mobile devices.

As the mobile payments industry transitions from small pilots to large-scale deployments, Bell ID has released its mobile token management solution specifically designed to meet the functional and commercial complexities of this ecosystem. The solution is positioned at the core of any mobile services implementation – regardless of technical and business partners – to perform the required data preparation and securely manage OTA the entire lifecycle of the SE, its associated applications and related cryptographic keys.

Drawing on its established token management expertise within the financial sector supporting global EMV technology and its credibility in the identity marketplace, Bell ID’s solution fully aligns with industry standards and can support global implementations. It is also form factor neutral, supporting the lifecycle of applications on any type of SE, including embedded SEs, UICCs and microSD cards.

David Orme, CEO at Bell ID, comments: “The solution meets a direct need in the marketplace as it is simple to use, secure, scalable and can be configured to connect with existing systems. We have already received an incredibly positive reaction to the product from a range of stakeholders, including handset manufacturers and MNOs wishing to offer mobile services to end-users through the management of applications on embedded SEs and UICCs respectively. In addition to this, there has been a high level of interest from vendors and other parties looking to become TSMs, such as personalization bureau.”

Bell ID has also been liaising with banks and payment services providers that would like to directly manage their mobile payment applications through the deployment of microSD cards. David adds: “There is a real attraction in being able to synchronize the management of payment applications residing on both EMV smart cards and mobile SEs. The Bell ID Trusted Service Manager can achieve this by integrating into legacy infrastructures to create one central application lifecycle platform.”

Looking to the future, David concludes: “Regardless of the deployment model adopted and the business relationships created, this is an emerging ecosystem and there are still a lot of unknown factors. The ability to securely update, personalize and manage applications OTA and be flexible to future requirements will be key to success.”
