Samsung’s new KU6300 and KU6500 lineup of HDR LED TVs boast full support for VIDITY™, a secure delivery service that facilitates the purchase, delivery and storage of premium content across a wide range of devices.
“Ranging in sizes from 40 to 65 inches, these four TVs have three HDMI inputs and two USB ports,” Explora’s Richard Risitano confirmed. “While similar in features, the KU6500 houses a curved display, whereas the KU6300 offers a traditional flat panel design.”
Additional specs include UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160, the capability to upscale non-4K video to near-4K quality, integrated WiFi, access to Samsung’s Smart Hub, a full web browser and LED backlighting.
It should be noted that Samsung’s new KU6300 and KU6500 lineup of HDR LED TVs are hitting the market just months after Thomas K. Arnold, the publisher & editorial director of Home Media Magazine, declared that VIDITY is “on a roll.”
“Developed by the Secure Content Storage Association (SCSA), [VIDITY] offers consumers the chance to store and move digital content, including Ultra HD files, around from device to device, from the biggest home theater system to the tiniest smartphone,” he explained. “And observers expect demand for the technology to soar, now that Ultra HD is rapidly ramping up.”
As Arnold points out, VIDITY is platform agnostic, durable, future proof and ensures a high level of consumer experience and ease of use.
“It bridges the complexities of interoperability and compatibility across devices,” he said. “It’s a standardized solution that takes advantage of technological advances in chipsets, operating systems and devices — from smartphones to tablets to computers to smart TVs — to enable the best possible digital entertainment experience without getting in the way of the experience and requiring the consumer to have a Ph.D. just to figure out how to make it work.”
Indeed, VIDITY value chain offers the potential to positively impact the entire home entertainment ecosystem.
“The consumer can get to enjoy the highest-quality viewing experience imaginable, along with ease of use and the ability to move purchased content around from device to device,” Arnold continued. “The file may be big, up to 60GB, but once it is downloaded from the Internet or hopefully copied over from the Blu-ray Disc it stays in the consumer’s actual possession.”
Meanwhile, the retailer can provide customers with the best-possible viewing experience for a variety of playback platforms – all with a single purchase, either on a disc or as a download.
“The studio gets a mechanism that can fuel Ultra HD movie and TV show purchases, with the value proposition to the consumer that whatever is bought is both backwards compatible and forward facing,” Arnold added. “[Plus], VIDITY enables new business models and encourages digital content collection. And technology companies — well, for them, VIDITY can open doors to Hollywood, a way to bring new business models and technology advances into the lucrative home entertainment food chain.”
As we’ve previously discussed on Rambus Press, the Rambus Cryptography Research Division is responsible for running and managing the SCSA’s VIDITY Key Issuance Center. The service, part of the Cryptography Research Trust Services offering, manages cryptographic keys used by SCSA-enabled devices and services to secure high-quality 4K Ultra HD content. In operating the Key Issuance Center, Cryptography Research delivers encrypted keys to storage device makers, player manufacturers and content issuers involved with the SCSA.
